MHFA England Mental Health First Aider Course + MMS Follow up with MHFAiders®

Become a Mental Health First Aider (with the updated Sept 2022 format)

Do you want to stand out and make a difference where you work?

MMS trains anyone to be an accredited MHFAider® through MHFA England. MMS does this through 2 steps:

1.Accredited MHFA England training

The Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) England Course qualifies you and your colleagues to be a Mental Health First Aider. Patrick is a MHFA instructor and runs the course.

All delegates will be trained to:

  • Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention.

  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports.

  • Practise active listening and empathy.

  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma.

  • Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality.

  • Practise self-care.

  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®.

  • Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England
The course is broken down into 4 sections that are delivered over 10 – 14 days - either Face to Face or Online.

After the workshop, delegates receive a workbook, MHFA England certificate and lanyard. Each delegate will have 3 years access to digital MHFA England services and content, including the MHFAider Support App®.

For an in-depth look at each session content please visit the MHFA England website - HERE. Also see the video below for a summary.

Patrick Melville will be your trainer: he is an education professional and accredited MHFA instructor.

MHFAiders® are internationally recognised with a RSPH Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid.  Click HERE link for more details from MHFA England.

2. MMS follow up with MHFAiders®

MMS provides time and knowledge to support MHFAiders®, and their colleagues, after their training because delegates have more work to do in the same amount of time.

MMS work with 120 minutes is focused to::

  • maintain MHFAider® knowledge and learning.

  • create a safe environment for new (and Refreshed) MHFAiders® to share their experience and support each other.

The MMS follow up can be bought separately from the MHFA England training courses.

Testimonials and images for the MHFA England training and MMS follow-up programmes with accredited MHFAiders®

Patrick was a brilliant MHFA instructor when I completed the Mental Health First Aid 2-day online course in September 2024. He did a fantastic job in bringing the group together and driving our open engagement with the material in his uniquely warm, empathetic and personal way. He really brought the material to life through discussions, role play and applying it to real life work examples that we suggested we might encounter. I would highly recommend the MHFA course with Patrick!

Working with Patrick has been an incredibly positive experience for Osttra. His comprehensive and empathetic approach to mental health training has profoundly impacted our team. The sessions were not only informative but also engaging and supportive, making complex topics accessible to everyone. The 8 of us who attended the training gained valuable skills to support each other and our colleagues, fostering a healthier and more resilient workplace culture with many of us expressing how empowered we now feel to handle mental health challenges more confidently and compassionately. We would highly recommend Patrick to any organisation seeking to prioritise mental health and well-being.

Patrick came to Huxley Bertram Engineering Ltd for an in-person Mental Health First Aid 2-day training session for our MHFA team. Patrick is an excellent and enthusiastic trainer and clearly knows a lot about the subject. We learnt a lot about mental health in general, and I particularly liked the emphasis on self-care, because if you aren’t taking care of your own mental health, you aren’t going to be able to help anyone else. We have come away from our training with a lot more knowledge than we had before and confident that we are better prepared to engage with anyone who needs some assistance to find professional help.
— Gill Spencer, Head of HR, Huxley Bertram Engineering Ltd
Amazing co-instructor course and brilliant instructors. We all learnt so much and the amount we learnt was incredible. It has made us confident and proud of the journey we are about to embark on.I would recommend to anyone and Patrick and Louise as presenters were excellent

Using MHFA skills to be a volunteer

”Patrick Melville volunteered at the Trout And About festival using his accredited MHFA England services.  He was the on-site Mental Health First Aider and  part of the event team to support the 8,000 attendees.  By being stationed near the First Aider tent and walking around the event he raised awareness of the support services we provided.“ Bob Powel, Chairman, Trout N’About
